The U.Spicy is ceramic straightening brush with an ionizer which not only straightens the hair but makes it shiny and soft to the touch.

First Impressions

The USpicy Hair Straightener Brush is shipped ready to use at home or ready to take traveling. I want to start my review off by stating what the brush comes with. It comes with a storage a case, a heat-resistant glove and a cleaning brush for the bristles of the brush as loose strands of hair and dust can accumulate.

Secondly, I am going to review the appearance and dimensions of the brush. The Uspicy is black, which gives it a very sleek, modern appearance. Matte black is the only color offered but this color is actually ideal because it’s completely smudge and fingerprint proof and will not look out of place with any color scheme or decor.  The body and bristles are made of a smooth plastic. The head is oval in shape with dimensions of 6×3×1 inches. The overall length is 11 inches. So, the brush can be considered on the smaller side which makes it very convenient to be used as a travel brush. At the same time, it can be used at home daily because it doesn’t take up very much space.

There is an LCD to show the operating temperature in degrees Fahrenheit or Celsius. The temperature is user adjustable making the brush suitable for every hair type. Lower temperatures are for fine hair types while higher settings are for thicker and frizzy hair types.

Usability of Uspicy Brush

How well the brush works is the most important part of the review. The Uspicy brush is user-friendly making hairstyling a breeze. It heats up to operating temperature in as little as 60 seconds and can reach the maximum temperature of 450° Fahrenheit in less than three minutes. It is as simple to use as an everyday hair comb. The bristles are thin so they glide through the hair easily. As easy as the brush is to use, the results it gives are on par with professional devices. A professional looking hairstyle can be made in as little as five minutes. Longer, denser hair will take somewhat longer.

Again, it is made mostly of plastic meaning the brush is very light and easy to maneuver. The actual weight is 13.6 ounces. The six-foot-long power cord serves adequate mobility when in use especially as it’s a swivel cord that can rotate a full 360 degrees. This comes in handy because this feature keeps the cord out of the way while straightening.

The brush is equipped with a hanging hook making it easy to store, but at the same time, it is always just an arm’s reach and is ready to use.

Upon Further Inspection

The operational temperature range of the USpicy is 250° to 450° Fahrenheit. Among popular hair straightening 450° Fahrenheit is the highest setting available. Seven different temperature settings are possible. Low temperatures are used to style thin or fine hair types and high temperatures are needed for thick hair types. The LCD display can be set to read in either the Fahrenheit or the Celsius scale.

The surface of the heating element is constructed of ceramic which is an ideal material for this application because a ceramic straightening brush heats evenly and is very gentle for heating the hair. There are no hot spots or cold spots on the surface providing consistent results from one time to the next.

There is also an ionizer which promotes long lasting straightened hair as opposed to that from brushes that do not contain an ionizer. The ionizer also makes the hair shinier and smoother.

The USpicy straightener has an anti-scald design. Massaging stubs and guards on the bristles prevent burns on the head and hands. The tips of the bristles are heat insulated. The handle is also heat resistant as well as smudge proof. The design ensures no heat being transmitted to the handle making it always cool to the touch.

An important safety feature is the 30-minute automatic shut-off. The brush will automatically go into standby mode after 30 minutes without being used. This feature prevents the brush from becoming a potential fire hazard protecting the user and their home. In addition, not only will it minimize electricity consumption, it will also help to preserve the longevity of the brush.

This device is truly universal. Although it has the United States compatible plug, the device supports all voltages worldwide — 110-240V at 50/60 Hz.

The control buttons are located on the inner side of the handle in a recessed panel. This is convenient as it prevents accidental pressing of the buttons while the unit is in use which is sometimes an issue with other devices. There is also an auto button lock for this purpose.

This is definitely one of the finest tools and ranks highly in the best electric hair straightening brush ranking 2017.

Conclusions of Review

Ease of use, simple controls, and the lightweight design make this device a must-have beauty tool for those whose hair isn’t straight but wish it could easily be. This model provides solid, long-lasting straightening.

The included accessories make it a perfect gift. But, it can also be a gift for yourself. It takes up very little space so it is an appropriate addition to a travel bag. At the same time, it is favorable at home as it will not take up much space in the bathroom.

Important safety features such as an included heat-resistant glove and the 30-minute auto shut-off function make this brush very safe to use for adults and young teens too.

This model took third place in our best hair straightening brush 2017 ranking.

I hope this review has provided you with all the information necessary for you to make a conclusion whether or not it is suitable for your personal needs. You can read additional customer reviews on

  1. Hello!
Thank you for your detailed reviews! I am trying to decide between the straight n shine and the uspicy. From reading the comparisons, I am having a difficult time seeing much difference between the two besides the price. Can you please let me know if there is anything I should consider about the straight n shine? I should note that I have long, frizzy, wavy and very thick red hair.

  2. Trina

    Hi, Mellyn!
Specifications are the same. Except that the straight n shine is a little bit faster than the uspicy brush. If you want more detailed comparison, use our tables from the buying guide here:

  3. How long did the results last after using the USpicy?

    1. Trina

Once I have straightened my hair, the kink and frizz stay away until the next time I wash my hair. Unless it is extremely humid! Overall, it provides a long lasting result.

  4. wow!

  5. Does this tool work on wet hair?

    1. Trina

I use it on my wet hair sometimes if I’m in a rush. I probably shouldn’t as it does cause a lot of steam and potentially dangerous steam, but it works just fine. I try to let my hair dry at least 30% before using it (preferably 75% air dry), but I have definitely been using it on my wet hair. Works perfect. Just watch out for the steam, like all heated tools.

  6. Is this brush appropriate for short hair?

    1. Trina

Depends on how short is short. If your hair is shorter than 5 inches long then this could be a rather difficult task as the width of the brush itself is 3 inches. I would recommend a flat iron in your case. If your hair is longer than chin length, it should be fine.

  7. Is it a problem or painful if the bristles touch your head?

    1. No, the tips of the bristles are the only part of the brush that comes into contact with your scalp and they stay cool.

  8. Does this burn or damage your hair?

    1. You can easily control the temperature. Start from the lowest and see what works for you as the lower the temp, the less damage it will cause to your hair. Actually, any heated tool can potentially damage your hair, but hair straightening brushes are far less damaging than, for instance, a flat iron.

  9. I have very fine hair that gets damaged easily. Is it safe to use regularly without causing damage?

  10. I have the same problem, as long as I don’t go over 330 degrees, my hair remains in the same condition as it was before I started using it a few months ago.

  11. Does the back of the brush get really hot?

    1. No hotter than a usual straightener. You don’t have to worry about getting burnt.

  12. Is this safe to use daily?

    1. Hi, Maria!
You can actually use it daily if you use a heat protectant. I always recommend trying to avoid heated styling on a daily basis though, because it can take its toll on your hair over time. So I’d try cut down to straightening it after every wash (ideally 3-4 times per week), once you’ve allowed it to dry naturally, then go ahead with the straightening brush.

  13. Hi. I just ordered this brush off Amazon and strands of my hair get stuck in the brush and it pulls them. Also some of the brush combs are sharp and scratch. Is this normal or do you think I got a defective brush? My hair is not that thick and it just has a small natural wave to it.
