Does Simply Straight Brush work?

The ceramic hair straightening brush by Simply Straight is one of the best hair brushes 2018 has to offer. The Simply Straight straightener can easily transform hair of any kind to a long-lasting modern, straight, sleek look. The JML company also has an additional brush variant which is known as the Simply Straight Professional Pro, it has a few more advanced features than the brush I am reviewing today but of course, with a slightly higher price, you can compare the two brushes yourself to see what is the most suitable for you. Among the many Simply Straight brush reviews, I want my review to be a thorough as possible so that you have a true insight of what to expect from the brush before making a purchase.

The Simply Straight heated ceramic brush is packed with many features both safety oriented and for the sake of practicality. It has an up to date design and the Simply Straight as seen on tv brush itself looks modern. All of the features make it extremely safe, fun and easy to use.
Based on the principles of ease of use, it is designed for someone on the go and the traveler alike. Its small size makes it equally suitable to use at home, in the bathroom, a hotel room and to keep on a dressing table or in a travel bag.

Dafni vs Simply Straight

The Dafni and Simply Straight hair straightening brushes are both equally as popular as each other. The Dafni appeared first on the market, and made straightening brushes so popular in the first place, while the simply straight was advertised on TV making it well known among many. While both of these brushes have their similarities, they certainly have their differences too. This comparison chart should help you decide which the best option for you is. Depending what features are most important for you will help you make a decision.

From this comparison chart, you can easily see the differences between these two brushes which look quite similar at first glance. Both brushes comfortably glide through the strands of hair and straighten hair with ease, but to decide comes down to your personal needs and which particular features are most important for you.

What is the Simply Straight Brush?

Upon opening the box, my first impression was that the brush had a very attractive look to it. It is simple to operate with three control buttons: one for power and two for temperature setting. There is also a small LCD screen above the control buttons. The Simply Straight ceramic brush is very lightweight and fits comfortably in my hand.

Does Simply Straight work?

It works on all hair types, but some customers on Amazon have made a review stating it’s not the best for Afro American hair, so that should be kept in mind.

Is it Easy to Use?

simply straight featuresThe body of the Simply Straight hair straightening brush, as well as its bristles, are made of a type of plastic that is very pleasant to the touch. Every bristle has a rounded tip which I think is very important to be included in the review because the bristles do not pull or hurt when going through the strands of hair.

The brush features an LCD display. The purpose of this is to show the current temperature of the heating element, so you know when it is ready to use. A range of temperatures are available to suit the needs of different hair types.

The head shape is oval. The overall dimensions of the brush are 11×2.8×6.5 inches.

The brush is available in black which goes with everything, it’ll suit any surrounding where it is kept.

Usability of Simply Straight Hair Brush

This is the most important section of the review in my opinion, how well the brush actually works! This hair straightening brush heats up to the maximum temperature of 450°F in two to three minutes. This is another feature that is perfect for someone on the go where every minute of their time matters.

The brush is very easy to maneuver and feels light to hold. The total weight is 15.2 ounces.

The cord length is a very convenient six feet, and it has a swivel making it perfect to use in almost any bathroom or dressing table.

My Inspection

The maximum operating temperature is 450° F (230° C) which makes the brush an effective straightening solution for even the thickest and/or curliest hair. Lower temperatures should be used for wavy and/or thin hair.

The heating surface has an anti-scald design and an unheated outer row of soft plastic bristles. This row helps to get the hair where you want it to be for the heating and straightening process.

The surface of the heating element itself is made of ceramic. This material provides uniform heating — meaning there’ll be no hot or cold spots that could affect the final result. Also, ceramic, when used for this purpose is considered to be safe for the hair, reducing the risk of burning it or otherwise resulting in an over-processed look. The ceramic bristles are three dimensional in shape and are 1/2 inch in height.

It has a built-in safety feature of a 60-minute automatic shut-off. If the brush has been turned on but not used for 60 minutes, it will automatically go into standby mode and begin to cool down. This will save on electricity costs and reduce the risk of danger.

This review needs to include the fact that the Simply Straight hair straightening brush is meant primarily for use in North America as it is rated to operate on 110 volts AC. (For use in other countries, an inexpensive voltage converter is required.)

One must be careful when operating the brush. This is because of the fact that the control buttons are located on the outer side of the handle which could cause an accidental temperature change or turn the heating element turned off completely.

Should You Buy Simply Straight Brush? Positive and Negative Points

All in all, the Simply Straight ceramic hair straightening brush provides an economical, fast and easy way to straighten curly, wavy or frizzy hair. It has a sleek modern look and is comfortable to use. Overall, the positive points far outweigh the negative points.

The positive points in my review are:

  • It heats up to operating temperature in three minutes or less.
  • Its small size and good build quality make it practical for home or travel use.
  • The ceramic heating surface provides uniformity of heat distribution and is gentle on the hair no matter what type it is.
  • The LCD display the temperature allows the right temperature to be locked in to help achieve the desired results.
  • The three-dimensional ceramic bristles are gentle on the hair.
  • The six-foot swivel cord is suitable for most bathrooms or even a dressing table.
  • The 60-minute automatic shut-off is an important feature in terms of safety and power consumption.
  • The type of plastic used for the body has a nice hand feel to it.
  • It is lightweight, coming in under one pound in weight.
  • The maximum temperature of 450° Fahrenheit (230° Celsius) will straighten even the curliest or frizziest of hair types.

It’s important that this review includes the negative points too:

  • The location of the controls. They are located on the outer side of the handle. Having them in this location makes it possible to change the temperature or even turn the unit’s power off while it is in use.
  • There are no accessories of a carry case included with the unit. In fairness, combs and carry cases can be obtained fairly cheaply.
  • The brush is designed for use with 110 volts AC. This obstacle for worldwide usability can be remedied with the use of a voltage converter.

I hope my review has made you well-informed in all necessary elements to consider before making a purchase.  If you decide to have the Simply Straight ceramic brush for yourself, I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I do.

  1. I brought the simply straight because I wanted to straighten my own hair giving my mom a break, but then I saw videos of woman doing it sections, which I’m unable to do because I’m only one handed, so could I still use the simply straight brush anyways?

    1. I think, yes. It seems to me a straightening brush is the only one straightener which you can manage with one hand. You can skip this step (I mean doing hair sections). If your hair is not that fizzy, it will work. Also, try to use oils for heat styling (argan and coconut are good). They will make the process more efficient.

  2. I have been considering buying this product for a while now. I have fairly thin hair which is wavy and I am just concerned about the damage it could do to my hair; any thoughts or suggestions?

    1. Trina

Damage would be minimal, depending on the frequency of use. I recommend you to use a light hair protection product and gradually increase the temperature as it shouldn’t need to be extremely high to be able to straighten your hair seen as it’s thin.

  3. Does it work well for thick wavy hair?

  4. Trina

My daughter’s hair is thick and I often straighten hers. It does the job well; you just need to work with small sections of hair at a time. Also, make sure the hair is completely dry.

  5. Does this work well with thick wavy hair?

    1. Trina

My daughters’ hair is thick and I manage to do hers with it, just work with small sections at a time and be patient.

  6. I purchased Simply Straight went home and plugged it in. Does not work or heat up! Defected what a disappointment.

    1. If goods you bought turn out to be faulty or do not look or work as advertised, the seller must repair or replace them free of charge or give you a price reduction or a full refund. So I advise you to go back to the shop and get a new brush.

    2. That’s unfortunate Elizabeth. Sorry to hear about that.
I hope you got a refund or replacement.

  7. How often do you need to use this brush? Every time you wash your hair?

    1. You can definitely use it after you’ve washed your hair and allowed it to completely dry.
Using this after every wash will ensure your hair is frizz-free and smooth to the touch.

  8. Does it straighten naturally curly hair?

    1. My hair is curly, although not tight curls. It straightens my hair really well.

  9. Does it automatically shut off if it’s left plugged in?

    1. No, it will not. You need to make sure you unplug it after you’re finished using it.

  10. Is this product available in 220volts?

    1. Hi Marjorie! Unfortunately, the Simply Straight brush is only available in 110volts. For worldwide usability you will need an adapter. This is a good alternative if 220V is necessary for you. 🙂

  11. Will this damage my hair?
My hair is very fine and wispy…

    1. Claudia, if you use the lowest temperature and a light heat protectant, this is a suitable tool for styling your hair type. But you won’t need anything more than the lowest temperature.

  12. Awesome Site. Very much enjoyed reading.

  13. Sir strightner temperature not increasing ..its 230 degree is not working?

    1. Hi, Rachel.

You must have the device set to Celsius, and in this case, 230 degrees Celsius is the maximum temperature. You can switch the temperature to Fahrenheit by holding down both the “+” and “-“ at the same time. I hope this helps!
