FemJolie Hair Straightening Brush Review

Last update: Mar 24, 2017 09:13, April Williams

My FemJolie hair straightening brush arrived a few weeks ago, and so far I am very pleased with what I have received. It is a combination brush, comb, straightener and massager all in one. It looks as though it will be replacing all of the aforementioned items in the future. There are three colors available:

The new technology that the brush employs is billed as anti-static and anti-frizz. So far, it is living up to these concepts. I have long, curly hair, but I can see that it would work for a wide variety of thicknesses and lengths.

It heats up fast and shuts off on its own. This is perfect for me. I have almost burned my apartment down a few times because I had forgotten to shut my straightener off.

There is also a money back guarantee. So, if I have a problem within the next 60 days, it is good to know that the company stands behind its products.

My First Impressions

Upon opening the box, the first thing I noticed was the sleek look. Mine is an eye-catching white. The oval head gives the look of an elegant and sophisticated brush. The LCD temperature display is easy to read and adjust. It adds to the modern look and feel of the brush.

It defaults to the temperature being displayed in Celsius. This can be quickly changed to read out in Fahrenheit with a few button clicks.

The size was a bit smaller than I imagined. The dimensions are 11 x 2 x 3, which makes it convenient for travel and storage, although mine will likely be sitting on my bureau for the duration of its lifespan.

It is a lightweight brush that is much easier to maneuver than a traditional straightener. The lightness owes itself to the fact that the body and bristles are made of a biodegradable glossy plastic.

The brush cools quickly and automatically. So, there is no need for an ugly and cumbersome heat-resistant glove.

Femjolie usability

The number on a unique feature of Femjolie hair straightening brush is that it heats up incredibly fast. It took less than three minutes to heat to 450 degrees. This temperature is perfect for my curly hair as I often need full heat to fully straighten my hair. It also straightens very quickly. It took me about half of the time that a normal flat iron would to fully straighten.

The cable rotates as you turn the brush. This did not seem practical to me until I tried it. The cord stays out of my way, and I don’t have to risk burning my arm to keep it out of my face. Aside from that, the cord itself is over six feet long. This makes it much easier for the cord to reach an outlet. I prefer to do my straightening in my bedroom, and the outlet is a few feet away. It was impossible to use my previous flat iron in the bedroom because its cord was too short.

Being only about one pound, the weight of this device is much more bearable than that of other, heavier straighteners which can weigh in at two pounds! These will tire your forearms out after only a few minutes of use. I did not notice my arm getting tired at all, although this could be partially credited to how quickly the device straightens.

The button placement is a tad inconvenient. The are on the right side and are difficult to reach while you are using the iron.

femjolie-buttoms

Although this product works with damp hair, I recommend drying it before use. Wet hair can get tangled more easily. It is definitely not meant to be used on hair that is soaking wet.

There have been times when I could feel the bristles pulling my hair a bit, but this is to be expected. One of my friends who has extremely thick hair feels that this product is not the best as it can take quite some time to finish straightening. Personally, I recommend this model for medium thickness, but thicker hair can still be accommodated – just at a much slower rate.

A Closer Look

With a maximum temperature of 450 F (230 C), this product ranks among the highest among popular hair straightening brushes. This temperature allows for quicker straightening of thicker hair.

The bristles are designed in such a way as to prevent scalding of the scalp or shoulders, which can be a problem with a regular flat iron.

The heating surface is ceramic. This material is safer to use than others for the long term health of your hair.

This brush can be used with 110-240 Volts, so it is supported worldwide. There is no need to buy another product for traveling.

The automatic shut-off is a fantastic feature as it eliminates worry over whether or not you remembered to turn it off. This is a great and important feature!

Conclusion

Overall, this is a fantastic product for most applications. The stylish design combined with the storability and features make Femjolie brush one of the best on the market.

With previous straighteners, my curly hair would frizz and break. This electric device makes my hair look naturally straight. I can choose the level at which I want to straighten, allowing for a wide variety of styles.

before-after

The ease of use is not to be underestimated. I no longer burn my scalp and shoulders while straightening. I am now able to forget to turn it off with having to worry about causing a fire.

It is much faster than a regular straightener and is much more versatile.

There are only a few drawbacks to this product that are apparent. First, it is not a replacement for a dryer. I had some luck straightening my hair while it was wet, but it takes much longer than it would with dry or damp hair.

The button placement is a little inconvenient as the buttons are awkward to reach while you are using the brush.

Although I have not experienced it firsthand, it seems as though those with the thickest hair  may have a more difficult time taming their manes. It certainly can be done, but it takes a little longer and requires a higher temperature.

This is an excellent product otherwise, and I would recommend for anyone to try it for themselves. After all, if you are not satisfied, the manufacturer offers a 60-day money back guarantee, so there is nothing to lose.

  1. Thank you for review. Can this brush be used to put a slight curl on the ends of the hair? – Like flipping the brush in or outward to the end strands?

    1. Yes, you can use the FemJolie brush to curl the ends of your hair. I have shoulder length hair and do precisely that with my brush. It forms a really cute hairstyle! I am very happy with this brush.

    1. It’s not intended to be used as a hairdryer, due to the fact that it does not blow heat. When your hair is wet, the silicone bristles of the brush do not glide as smoothly. So rather than your hair being wet, if your hair is slightly damp, it could work. If you want the best possible results without causing damage to your hair, then use it when your hair is completely dry.

    1. Yes, but you have to be patient and take your time. I have very curly hair and I only use it once my hair is completely dry.
The temperature goes up to 450℉ Fahrenheit= 230℃ Celsius. For your hair type, start with higher temperature and gradually reduce to understand what the lowest temperature you will be able to use for straightening your hair.
It’s recommended to start at the highest temperature setting and reduce the level of heat as you desire for your hair style.
      For thick hair, select a higher temperature (410 – 450℉ Fahrenheit = 210 – 230℃ Celsius )
But see what you can get away with.

    1. The tallest bristle is one inch; the bristles vary in length which is actually really beneficial to obtain maximum contact with all strands of the hair on your head.

    1. I haven’t burned myself with it. They handle doesn’t get hot but I would still recommend handling it with as much care as you would with a flat iron.
