When my regular straightener conked out, I jumped at the chance to find something less damaging. My sister already has a Calily electric hair straightening brush which I tried and liked the result, so I knew I was looking for something of the sort.
I came across the Calily Steam Hair Brush Straightener and became intrigued from the get go. This kind of device isn’t the most popular on the market but I have a feeling they will be in the near future. My previous flat iron had dried my hair out completely so the steam feature really appealed to me. I decided it could be the perfect replacement for my straightener and would possibly hydrate my hair instead of drying persistently drying it out like my flat iron did.
This is not a usual hair brush straightener, nor is it a flat iron it looks like something in between because it’s not in the form of a regular hair brush like most hair straightening brushes but instead its form is like a flat iron because it’s in the form of tongs. Anyway, despite its differences and similarities to devices that already exist, the Calily Hair Brush Straightener is unique in many ways and has the possibility to style hair in a safe and unique way. I want to share my experience so that people become aware of how great a strange device like this is for styling and protecting the condition of their hair.

To turn the device on or off, you need to hold the power button down for three seconds. It automatically operates at the lowest temperature of 300°F (150°C) so you need to adjust the temperature if you require something higher. It heats up fast!
It’s up to you whether you chose to steam or not. You can use the steaming feature at the same time as the straightening brush or separately if you prefer.
The plastic bristles are on both sides on the straightening tongs which separate your hair while you’re pulling the device through your strands. As long as your hair is tangle-free before you start using the tool, you don’t have to worry about pulling strands. It’s not necessary to use small sections like how I did with my old flat iron, I can straight thick sections at a time which is a massive plus for me as I have heaps of hair that are really thick and it used to take me ages to get through all of it and have a consistent result throughout, but not anymore. My styling time has now been cut in half!
Further Information on the Steaming Feature
I decided to talk specifically about the steaming feature as it’s something that isn’t so common among hair styling tools. You should know that the steaming feature is not fundamental every time you use the straightening brush, instead, it’s optional and you can simply use it whenever you feel like it.
How to use the steaming function:
- You need to add water to the device in order to utilize the steaming feature. The water capacity is 30ml. It comes with a handy bottle to easily pour the water.
- Press the steam button and it’ll be ready to go in 90seconds.
- You can steam for a maximum of 15 minutes.
- There’s an outlet, big enough to drain the water so that you don’t get mildew buildup from leftover the water.
Why Steaming is Beneficial
The benefits of the steaming feature include strengthening the elasticity of the hair, eliminating dry & brittle strands, restoring color vibrancy, reducing breakage. Steaming is the perfect way to keep your hair hydrated and sanitized.
I’ve tried my sister’s regular straightening brush which she really loves. I thought it was good, but I found my new device to be way better for my hair. It gave me faster and softer results all over. The double brushes make the straightening so much more effective in my opinion! I love my new tool!
- Easy to use
- Quick to style – no need to do thin sections of hair
- Can use with or with the steam function
- Promotes healthy hair
- It’s a bit heavy and bulky
